Matt Lieto

A professional triathlete, coach, commentator for IRONMAN, and a writer for multiple publications, Matt considers himself more of an “everyman” or “age-grouper” than most pros because he was overweight, tipping the scales at 250 pounds, when he was inspired by his brother Chris Lieto (three-time IRONMAN champion and 2009 runner up at the IRONMAN World Championship) to change his diet and lifestyle. After losing 80 pounds and eight pant sizes in 5 months, Matt did his first triathlon – and was hooked. He went on to take fifth at Lake Placid IRONMAN in 2009, and third at IRONMAN 70.3 Hawaii in 2010 and 2011. Matt provides inspiration and motivation to fellow athletes, encouraging everyone to “push until goals become accomplishments.”
