Ed Acevedo, Ph.D., is Professor and Chair in the Kinesiology and Health Sciences Department at Virginia Commonwealth University. His primary research focus is on the interaction of mental stress and fitness level on an individual’s health. He has authored or coauthored more than 60 book chapters and articles in refereed journals and he has presented over 100 papers at national and international conferences. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Psychological Association. His past endurance performances include a marathon in 2:28; 10 km in 31:20; 5 km, 14:51; Olympic distance triathlon (1 mi. swim, 25 mi. bike, 10 km run) in 1:58; Ultra distance triathlons (2.4 mi. swim, 112 mi. bike, 26.2 mi. run) in 10:19:00; Western States 100 Mile Trail Run in 29:42:00; and two attempts to swim English Channel.
